Portkeys BM5IV WR 5.5″ 2000-nit SDI/HDMI Field Monitor
The Portkeys BM5IV WR is a 5.5-inch on-camera monitor with a 1920 x 1080, 10-bit (8+2 FRC) panel, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, a 178 degree viewing angle and a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits, so it stays readable in direct daylight. It runs Portkeys CINENORM OS, which supports up to 7 custom pages, and is operated through the touchscreen or four user-assignable function buttons. The housing is all aluminium with toughened glass over the display and weighs 358 g (12.62 oz) without a battery.
Video I/O covers one 4K60P HDMI input, one 3G-SDI input, one 4K60P HDMI output and one 3G-SDI output with cross-conversion, so the monitor can sit anywhere in the signal chain. HDMI accepts up to 4K DCI at 60P and SDI up to 1080P60. The SDI output can carry a clean feed or the image with a 3D LUT and peaking applied, and the two inputs can be viewed together in PBP, PIP and H2V split-screen modes. Monitoring tools include Waveform, Vectorscope, Histogram, Zebra, Peaking, ARRI False Color, LOG False Color, Log Stops, anamorphic de-squeeze and image capture with overlay. The panel is factory colour-calibrated, and users can build a 3D calibration LUT with an X-Rite probe.
The WR version adds wireless camera control for ARRI, RED, Sony, Nikon, Canon, Panasonic and Blackmagic Design cameras, wired control for Sony, Canon, Panasonic, BMD and ZCAM E2, and wired control of TILTA Nucleus N/M follow focus motors. A one-to-many system lets one master monitor control up to four compatible Portkeys monitors within 50 m. Power comes from the built-in Sony NP-F battery plate or the 4-pin and 2-pin LEMO 7.4V to 24V inputs, with a 17 W draw. FAQs
Can the BM5IV WR transmit video wirelessly?
No. The wireless link is for camera control only. The video signal still needs an HDMI or SDI cable from the camera.
Which cameras can it control?
Portkeys lists wireless control of ARRI, RED, Sony, Nikon, Canon, Panasonic and Blackmagic Design cameras, and wired control of Sony, Canon, Panasonic, BMD and ZCAM E2 cameras. Check the Portkeys compatibility list for your exact model.
Can it output a LUT to another monitor?
Yes. The 3G-SDI output can carry a clean feed or the image with a 3D LUT applied, and the HDMI to SDI cross-conversion lets you feed SDI devices from an HDMI camera.
How is it powered?
Through the built-in Sony NP-F style battery plate, or externally through the 4-pin aviation or 2-pin LEMO inputs at 7.4V to 24V. A D-Tap cable is included.
Where can I buy the Portkeys BM5IV WR?
